Renowned social analyst Lucky Mbewe has highlighted the need for the country’s leaders to embrace the spirit of tolerance and peace to spur development.
The call comes as Malawi commemorates Kamuzu Day which falls on May 14 every year.
Mbewe said the country’s first president, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda emphasized on the need for unity, a trait which is lacking in Malawi’s current leaders.
“Kamuzu preached about unity amongst Malawians based on the four cornerstones and this tremendously contributed to what the country is right now.”
“Therefore our current leaders have to emulate what Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda did to make Malawi better for everyone and not just a group of people,” Mbewe said.
He also said that should the leaders fail to emulate, the move can compromise the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Malawi is championing.
Meanwhile, the commentator has again spoke against political violence and nepotism.
