The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning says it is yet to finalize setting up of the task force which will spearhead the implementation of environmental fund.
This comes seven months down the line since the introduction of the carbon tax on all vehicles which came into effect in November last year.
The tax was introduced with an aim of supporting initiatives on climate change and environmental conservation.
Spokesperson for the Ministry, William Banda, told YFM Online said in the meantime government is still working on setting up a task force which will lead the initiative.
Banda also said that currently the country has realized about K700 million, from the carbon levy but part of the money has been channeled to support other climate change projects being implemented in the current financial year.
“So far we have realized about K700 million from the carbon levy but part of the money has been channeled to support other activities in the ministry of environment and it will be accounted for.”
“Currently we are still working on some modalities and setting up a taskforce which will spearhead the fund and the whole initiative, once that is done we will operationalize the fund,” he added.
