As days to the fresh presidential poll are drawing closer, government says it is yet to source the K8 billion funding deficit for the poll.
Treasury Spokesperson Williams Banda said government is still in process of mobilizing the said funds including engaging donors.
“For MEC and other equally important ministries, department or agencies we will still fund them in line with their cash flow although we have limited fiscal resources in which we would to fund equally important activities including elections,” he said.
Banda however disclosed that no donor so far has shown interest in financing the forthcoming presidential election.
“As of now, there is no development partner who has shown interest in funding this election, but Finance Ministry is still in consultation process with prospective donors to fund this election,” said Banda.
Last week, the immediate former MEC Chairperson Justice Jane Ansah told the Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament that the commission has incurred K8 billion budget deficit raising fears of smooth poll.
