A self-acclaimed Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Treasurer for Karonga Chapter Chifundo Kapesa says he has resigned from the coalition accusing it of being involved in political atrocities.
Kapesa has told journalists in Lilongwe that the country`s opposition political parties connived with the HRDC leadership to frustrate government’s effort in developing the country through organising a spate of protests.
“When I joined HRDC, we were told ours was a fight for human rights, sadly the organisation has turned political working with opposition in destroying property and promoting violence which has affected Malawians,” claimed Kapesa.
He endorsed the DPP-UDF Alliance as a better way of engaging the government in resolving misunderstandings.
“It is for this reason that today I announce my resignation as Treasurer for HRDC Karonga Chapter and choose to endorse the DPP-UDF presidential candidature of Peter Mutharika and his running mate Atupele Muluzi,” said Kapesa.
He added that he had written the HRDC leadership informing the coalition about his resignation.
But reacting to the development, HRDC Chairperson Gift Trapence has disowned Kapesa saying he has never been a member of HRDC.
“We don’t know him actually, he is just an imposter, our leadership is known by Malawians so we don’t comment on an imposter who has been sent by a political party,” said Trapence.
