A psychologist has called for investment in training of mental health professionals to assist people with mental health problems.
The call was made at the end of the mental health awareness month which is May.
The psychologist Chiwoza Bandawe said a lot of people are facing different mental health problems including depression and anxiety and therefore increasing number of mental health professionals is key for awareness raising.
Bandawe said that everyday should be a mental health awareness day and issues of mental health must be highlighted from time to time.
“There is need for programs on the radio where people can interact with these mental health experts,” he said.
“People can use the platform to discuss mental health problems and those that have faced any mental disorder can talk about their experiences so that people know that having a mental health problem is part of life.”
