The High Court in Zomba has adjourned to June 8 a case in which Misozi Chanthunya is answering charges related to the murder of his Zimbabwean girlfriend Linda Gasa in 2010.
Presiding Judge Ruth Chinangwa adjourned the case following an application by the defense lawyer, Michael Goba Chipeta to allow the defense prepare their case arguing that they were served with the amended charge sheet on Monday morning.
Chanthunya was initially answering a murder charge but the state amended the charge sheet and added two charges of perjury and hindering the burial of a dead body.
Gasa’s body was exhumed at Chanthunya’s Mwala Cottage in Monkey Bay, Mangochi District.
Initially, the case was brought before judge Ruth Chinangwa for full trial after the same court found Chanthunya with a case to answer.
On Monday, Lead State lawyer Dr. Steven Kayuni said the state is ready to proceed with the case and commended the court for allowing the state to amend two cases from the initial murder case the suspect is answering.
Chanthunya, 42, who hails from Balaka District is suspected to have killed Gasa on August 4, 2010 following a disagreement over pregnancy issues.
He went on the run after the body of Gasa was found concealed under concrete.
