A political analyst has called on the country’s President Peter Mutharika to free the police in order to deal with violence that has marred the campaign period.
The analyst Ernest Thindwa told YONECO FM online that this could be a lasting solution to the political terror.
Thindwa fears that, if the police continue to be partisan when discharging their duties, the violence will continue.
“The ruling party should free the police because the police have the capacity to contain the violence,” he said.
“Unfortunately police are not being used to serve Malawians but to a ruling party.”
He also expressed concerned that violence perpetrated by those suspected to be from the opposition is swiftly deal with but violence perpetrated by ruling party sympathizers is not acted upon.
Since the onset of the campaign for the fresh presidential polls, the country has witnessed different forms of violence.
