Young Politicians Union-YPU, has called on all political parties in the country to start preparing their supporters to accept the results of the polls ahead of the fresh presidential election slated for June 23, 2020.
YAS made the appeal through a press statement which the Union has released on Friday, June 12 and has been signed by its National Director, Clement Makuwa and the National Research and Documentation Officer, Peter Mumba.
The statement comes after the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) announced the publishing in the gazette the June 23, 2020 as the date of polling for the fresh Presidential election.
Reads part of YPU statement: “Democracy accords Malawians to choose leaders through an electoral process and the election in its nature is competitive.”
“Failure of a candidate in elections is not failure in life of that particular presidential candidate but rather demonstrates embracement of democracy by participating in the election.”
The statement has also asked candidates that will emerge victorious during the election to urged and caution their supporters to celebrate lawfully and respect the rights of those who will lose.
The grouping has further advised both side to ensure that lives and properties of citizens are safe-guarded and protected by all means during and after the election.
On the other hand, the Young Politicians have sent a message of congratulations to the newly appointed and sworn in Electoral Commission Chairperson, Judge Dr. Chifundo Kachale and the six commissioners, and further asked them to duly protect and safeguard the vote of the youth in the forthcoming election.
54% of the registered voters in the country are young people aged between 18-35 years.
