An agriculture policy analyst has hailed the price reduction of a 50kg of fertilizer to K4,495 that has been provided for in the provisional budget.
In an interview with YONECO FM online, Tamani Nkhono Mvula said this will enable farmers to increase productivity in the next farming season if it effectively used.
At least 3.5 million smallholder farmers are expected to access the fertilizer.
“This is commendable because the number of farmers who will benefit from the program has been increased and it is my hope that this will increase crop production.”
He added that, this was one of the campaign promises by the Tonse Alliance and it is great to see it come into fulfillment.
“Those implementing this provisional budget did not have enough time to plan for the budget so for a start this is a good thing.”
