Economist Happy Chirwa has commended the government for the temporarily suspension of the awarding of contracts to service providers to pave way for a quick audit.
Chief Secretary to the Government Zangazanga Chikhosi said government would like to ascertain transparency and credibility of the processes and decisions made on prospective contracts that were approved during the previous Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration.
Chirwa told YFM online that the government’s move is the right way to go to ensure that projects are on track and are being run legitimately to ensure the right resources can be used finish these projects.
“The new government is trying to sit down and put up control measures to understand how the contracts work and this will ensure effectiveness of how the job is done,” Chirwa said.
He added that this is a way to gain confidence in the citizens and the global community that the projects in question are moving smoothly which goes to show good governance.
Chirwa said good governance will boost confidence of investors which will be good for the economy.
“It is centered on confidence because if the national citizenry are confident in what the government is doing then it is very easy for the economy is performing,” he said.
Since assuming the presidency, Lazarus Chakwera’s government also dissolved parastatal boards.
