Youths for Change Association says it will stage peaceful protests on July 13, 2020 against the newly appointed cabinet.
Chairperson for the Association Constantine Gerald told YFM that the composition of the cabinet is not different from the former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regime which was characterized by appeasement policy.
“What president Chakwera has done is a clear indication of rewarding Mia because he spent a lot during the campaign period but we will not just watch and see because government resources might be misused,” he said.
Gerald said the country voted out DPP for the same reasons hence the need to stage demonstrations as the country deserves real freedom fighters.
He however was quick to point out that all Covid-19 preventive measures will be observed during the peaceful demonstrations.
Meanwhile, Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) says it is dismayed over the newly appointed 31-member cabinet.
According CDEDI Acting Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa, President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed the cabinet to please and reward some families which he believes might have contributed financially or materially towards the just ended political campaign.
Namiwa has since appealed to President Chakwera to be decisive and not be distracted by what he called “politics of appeasement”.
