Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councillor for Bangwe Nthandizi ward in Blantyre Isaac Jomo Osman has been arrested by police for the second time in a space of two months.
On Friday, July 2, Osman was arrested on the charges of conduct likely to cause breach of peace and the case of an assault.
Southern Region Police spokesperson, Ramsey Mushane, confirmed the development saying he was arrested following some pending files of cases he committed some time back.
Mushane said: “We received complaints from a number of people who alleged that they were assaulted and beaten by the suspect and we recorded them statements and charges were placed against him.”
However, Mushane declined to disclose names of the complainants.
He further said once Osman is recorded his statement, the police will proceed by taking him before the court.
During the time of his arrest on Friday, Osman was also on police bail following his arrest on June 29 on charges of malicious damage and theft of items belonging to Member of Parliament for Blantyre Bangwe Constituency, Orphan Shawa.
He was arrested on June 29, and he is expected to appeal before court on July 24, 2020.
