A call has gone out to the newly appointed Cabinet to work through the expectation of the President and Malawians at large to fulfill the policy direction.
According to President Lazarus Chakwera, his 31 member cabinet is transitional and that the performance of all the Ministers and their deputies will be proved on their approach to managing government affairs.
“You each have five months to produce results that will give Malawians confidence that change has come,” he said.
“At the end of that period, you will each give a report to Malawians publicly on your progress in each of the key performance indicators that I will give you.”
Commenting on the development, a University of Livingstonia based political scholar George Phiri said the Cabinet Ministers will be required to execute their duties in accordance with what the Malawi leader is expecting in them.
“Whatever the President said is a policy direction and he would things to be implemented according to what he says and it is very critical for the appointed cabinet to understand what the President meant,” Phiri said.
For the first time, at the end of 5-month period, the ministers will be allowed to give a report to Malawians publicly on their progress in each of the key performance indicators that they will be given by the Head of State.
