A 33-year-old man has died in Dowa after drowning in Kabinde River.
Dowa Police Spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha identified the deceased as Pilirani Mandevu from Ngolomi Village in the area of Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa District.
He said the incident happened between the night of Tuesday and Wednesday this week at Ngolomi Village along Kabinde River in Dowa.
“It is reported that the deceased was last seen during the night of Tuesday, July 14 2020 taking beer at Msanyama Trading Centre and it was during the morning of Wednesday July 15 2020 when he was found lying dead in Kabinde River beneath the bridge by passersby,” M’bumpha said.
“The matter was reported to the village headman who alerted police.”
Upon receipt of the matter, police visited the scene and took the body to Dowa District Hospital who confirmed that the death was due to suffocation as a result of drowning and no foul play suspected.
