The Ministry of Homeland Security in conjunction with the Malawi Police Service says it will start to audit and verify ammunitions and fire arms possession by the public as a way of ensuring and enhancing security in the country.
The line Minister, Richard Chimwendo Banda, through a statement said that the verification exercise is in accordance with chapter 14 subsection 08 of the firearms Act.
Read part of the statement; this will ensure that all illegal firearms are verified and are in the database of the registrar of firearms and deal with illegal possession of ammunitions
Further to this he said the move will help to prevent crime and violence which is mostly perpetrated by the use of illegal or unregistered firearms.
Banda has since called upon all persons in possession of firearms or ammunitions to patronize and present their weapons to their designated police stations for verification and registration.
The exercise is expected to start on July 20 to August 14 this year.
