Minister of Youth and Sports Ulemu Msungama has hinted on plans to prioritize the construction of the long awaited indoor netball court as one way of promoting the sport in the country.
Msungama told YFM in an interview that he acknowledges the importance of hosting international tournaments to the country’s economic development through foreign exchange earnings.
He therefore vowed to incorporate the project in the next budget.
Msungama also said that his ministry intends to promote every sport discipline at grassroots level hence the need to ensure the availability of physical education (PE) teachers at every school across the country.
The Malawi national netball team and league teams continue to play their games in the open, a development which is contrary to international standards.
Due to lack of the indoor netball court, the Queens use Blantyre Youth Centre and Lilongwe’s Don Bosco Courts for international games.
