An economics professor has advised the newly established Cabinet Committee on Public Private Partnership to coordinate properly towards promoting the private sector growth.
According to President Lazarus Chakwera, the appointed Cabinet Committee will, among other things, provide a high level strategic and policy advice to the government.
“The Committee will act as an effective platform for regular consultations between the private and public sectors.
“It will also ensure that the business environment is competitive and supports the development of the public private partnerships as well as creation and attraction of new businesses,” said President Chakwera in a media statement signed by Chief Secretary to the Government.
Commenting on the development, Polytechnic based economics Professor Betchani Tchereni said the appointment and composition of the Committee is important for the country`s economic growth.
“This is a good development because we have got what we call economic cluster ministries,” he said.
Professor Tchereni however advised members of the Committee to fully coordinate in order to avoid replicating duties.
“These ministries they need some sort of coordination for them to work together, confusion needs to be removed, they need to work towards a shared vision and shared strategies by running away from duplicating activities,” advised Professor Tchereni.
The Committee will be chaired by the Vice President Saulos Chilima and it constitutes a membership of six cabinet inisters ranging from Finance to Industry.
