The Malawi Police Service has arrested former State House chief of staff and inspector general of police, Peter Mukhito.
National Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent James Kadadzera confirmed the development to YFM but could not divulge more information.
“We have indeed arrested Mukhito but currently I cannot give you further details on the matter,” Kadadzera.
He said currently Mukhito is being kept at Area 3 police station in Lilongwe.
Sources say Mukhito has been arrested in connection with cement importation deals worth K5 billion using former President Peter Mutharika’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN) illegally.
Police have also re-arrested former Mutharika’s aide, Norman Chisale in connection with the gruesome murder of former Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) director of corporate affairs, Issa Njauju.
Chisale’s lawyer, Chancy Gondwe has confirmed the development but said the case committed is still unclear.
Njaunju was brutally murdered on July 4, 2015 and his body was found two days later partly buried while his Toyota double cabin vehicle was found burnt at Kauma in Lilongwe.
