Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has accused President Lazarus Chakwera of lying by claiming that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government looted K1.3 trillion from public coffers.
On Saturday night, President Chakwera told Malawians he has directed his Justice Minister to in collaboration with the Judiciary aiming at speeding up all corrupt cases perpetrated under the DPP regime.
“To expedite these cases, I have directed the Minister of Justice to work with the Judiciary and other institutions to create special courts to dispose of corruption cases with speed and to hand down befittingly harsh punishments against culprits,” said Chakwera.
But commenting on Chakwera`s remarks, Nankhumwa who is also DPP vice president for the Southern Region said the President`s sentiments are unsubstantial claims.
“What Dr. Chakwera said is actually not true because in no way can we have in an economy like that of Malawi up to K1.3 trillion being swindled because if that happens then the economy would have collapsed,” argued Nankhumwa.
He told journalists in Lilongwe that the Malawi Leader is misleading the nation on managing the country`s affairs by making serious allegation aiming at arresting DPP members.
“These are just wild allegations, much propaganda and from the people to say that they are failing to fulfill the promises they made, people are still waiting for the fulfillment of the promises.
“You can see that each every day that DPP members are being arrested for one reason or another so they might have taken an extra gear to make an allegation first and arrest someone and we are observing how far they will go with that,” said Nankhumwa.
The DPP vice president has also called upon government to act on issues affecting Malawians such as the COVID-19 outbreak citing that people are dying of the Virus with their cases being confirmed by health personnel.
