Government has expressed concern with the deficit of frontline medical practitioners fighting COVID-19 being created by increasing infection among them.
A visit by minister of health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda at Kamuzu Central Hospital on Thursday, found many health workers under quarantine a situation which has resulted into the deficit of health personnel at the hospital.
Speaking to YFM after the tour, Chiponda said government is aware of the challenges and will start the recruitment of additional 700 health workers to beef up the team.
The minister has also disclosed that government has plans to plant an oxygen plant at the hospital to ease challenges of lack of oxygen at the hospital.
Kamuzu Central Hospital director Dr. Jonathan Ng’oma said the hospital is facing other challenges citing inadequate quarantine facilities.
