Minister of Youth and Sports, Ulemu Msungama, says government intends to bring back youth development programmes that used to work better in the past.
Msungama said this in Lilongwe on Thursday during a media briefing on what his Ministry has been working on since being appointed into office by President Lazarus Chakwera.
He said there is need to bring back the lost glory of some vibrant Youth Development Programmes such as Youth Week Programme which proved beneficial during Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) 31-year-old rule.
“We want to concentrate on capacity building. Most of the times we are interested in results but for us to have results we also need to work on the roots,” he said.
“People have talked about Malawi National Pioneer bases we still have them there. There used to have vibrant agriculture programmes.”
Msungama pointed out that there is need to review the National Youth Policy which he said expired in 2018.
