University of Livingstonia based political scientist George Phiri has described the dismissal of the Secretary General for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Grezelder Jeffrey as unlawful.
Jeffrey has been fired after calling for an early elective convention for the party.
Phiri said that the party has failed to respect its constitution which states that its leadership will change upon change of the party’s national executive committee (NEC) through a convention.
“The leadership has failed to respect its own constitution which provides that positions will change upon the change of the party’s national executive committee which only happens at a convention which the party is yet to hold,” he said.
“This is a clear indication that there are fights inside the party which if not well handled will continue to tarnish the party’s already dented image,” he added.
Phiri has since advised the party to relook into its operations and put its house in order if the party is to regain its glory and the people’s trust.
“The leaders need to sit down and reflect on their progress, failing which they will lose all the supporters which will also impact their preparations and probably their performance in the 2025 elections,” said Phiri.
