Senzani Health Centre in Ntcheu district has registered 102 teenage pregnancies during this Covid-19 period.
Harnneck Ponderani who is in charge of the facility confirmed this in an interview with YFM saying the figures have gone up due to among other things lack of access to Sexual Reproductive Health services (SRH) for young people.
“The pregnancies are for girls ranging from 16 to 19 years, and though teen pregnancies are a big issue here the numbers have increased during this Covid-19 period.”
Reacting to the development, National Coordinator for Adolescent’s and Youth SRH programme in the Ministry of Health Hans Katengeza said some health services including sexual reproductive health (SRH) services were put on hold as such young people were unable to access these services.
But he was quick to inform young people on the resumption of SRH services at all health facilities.
