The High Court sitting in Zomba has convicted Misozi Chanthunya of murdering his girlfriend Linda Gasa in 2010.
Justice Ruth Chinangwa on Friday found Chanthunya guilty of three charges of murder, hindering proper burial of a dead body and perjury.
Justice Chinangwa also revoked bail applied by Chanthuntha saying the offences that he was convicted of are serious and that the move intends to protect the convict from harm.
Gasa, who was a Zimbabwean national and a student at the Malawi College of Accountancy, was murdered and buried at Chanthunya’s cottage in Mangochi.
Lawyer representing Chanthunya, Micheal Goba Chipeta said they will appeal the court’s ruling arguing that the state’s evidence was circumstantial.
“There are a lot of errors that we have noted as you witnessed the court based its decision on circumstances and my client has given a direction to appeal to court,” Goba chipeta said.
However, Lead State Counsel Dr. Steve Kayuni has appealed for a stiffer sentence.
Meanwhile, the court is expected to deliver its sentence September 2, 2020.
