Nine foreign-based players on Friday joined Flames camp in readiness for two strength-testing matches against Zambia and Zimbabwe, respectively.
According to Football Association of Malawi director of media and competitions, Gomezgani Zakazaka, South Africa-based Limbikani Nzava, Gerald Phiri Junior, Richard Mbulu, Gabadinho Mhango and Denis Chembezi joined camp in the morning together with Mozambique-based John Banda and Shumaker Kuwali.
He said USA-based Yamikani Chester joined camp later in the afternoon whereas Charles Petro will fly straight to Lusaka, Zambia on Monday.
In an interview with YFM Online, Zakazaka said the nine foreign-based players have already undergone COVID-19 tests where they are coming from.
“I can confirm that all local players have tested negative to COVID-19 and the foreign-based players already underwent the process in their respective countries last week. We expect a full squad by the weekend,” he said.
Zakazaka further added that the FLAMES are expected to travel to Zambia next week Monday to play against the Chipolopolo on Wednesday before dating Zimbabwe on Sunday at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Malawi is preparing for back to back 2022 African Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Burkina Faso in November.
