Save the Children has donated an oxygen concentrator to Pirimiti Community Hospital in Zomba district, as one way of easing the pressure in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking during the handover ceremony Macpherson Kapalamula, Programs Manager for Save the Children, said the donation is part of the response of some of the problems that were raised to them by the hospital.
“We previously supported the hospital with various activities in the covid-19 response and one of the challenges they highlighted was that they are lacking some machines like the oxygen concentrator,” he said.
On his part Principal Medical Officer for Pirimiti Community Hospital Dr Chifuniro Mgunda expressed gratitude towards the donation saying it will fill in the gaps that were there.
“We are so glad to have this concentrator as it will go a mile in helping people who are suffering from Covid-19,” Mgunda said.
He further said they have a structure that was built to accommodate covid-19 patients but had challenges in sourcing funds, hence the donation is a step towards a right direction.
Mgunda also urged other well-wishers to still come and help in providing other equipment’s for the structure to fully start its operation.
Pirimiti community hospital saves around 45,000 community members surrounding the hospital.
