Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has announced that the friendly match between Malawi’s Flames and Zimbabwe’s Warriors will take place on Sunday at Mpira Village Stadium in Blantyre, and not Kamuzu Stadium as earlier stated.
FAM marketing director Limbani Matola confirmed the news on Friday. The uncertainty that surrounded the possibility of hosting the game is finally over after the government of Zimbabwe on Thursday granted clearance for the Warriors to travel to Malawi.
The match falls on a Fifa calendar date. Malawi will be coming to the game fresh from their 1-0 loss to Zambia in another friendly match played in Lusaka on Wednesday.
Coach Meck Mwase told the press that the loss gave him some food for thoughts on where to improve on during the Zimbabwe game on Sunday.
According to an earlier communication from FAM director of media and competitions, Gomezgani Zakazaka, the two friendly matches have been arranged for the Flames in preparation for the back to back 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burkina Faso in November this year.
Meanwhile, Zakazaka has reiterated that no fans will be allowed at the Mpira Village Stadium in Blantyre on Sunday as one way of following the preventive measures of COVID-19 pandemic.
