The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has warned that most parts of the country will this week experience heavy rains associated with strong winds.
According to Director in the Department Jolamu Nkhokwe, the downpours will be experienced due to the presence of moist and protracted heating of the atmosphere.
“During this time of the year, thunderstorms are experienced due to the presence of moist and prolonged heating of the atmosphere by the sun,” said Nkhokwe in a statement.
The statement has also highlighted that the thunderstorms will associated with strong winds, thunder and lightning which is basically a giant and powerful electric spark in the sky.
This is a discharge of static electricity that occurs when there is an imbalance in the electrical charge between the cloud and the earth’s surface and can cause damages to property and life.
Nkhokwe has since advised people in the country to consider taking preventive measures such as being in doors to avoid being struck by lightning.
“The thunderstorms are associated with strong winds, thunder and lightning which is basically a giant and powerful electric spark in the sky,” he said.
“Which is a discharge of static electricity that occurs when there is an imbalance in the electrical charge between the cloud and the earth’s surface and can cause damages to property and life.”
Lake waters are also expected to be rough due to occasional occurrence of Mwera winds.
