The High Court in South Africa has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for their involvement in the murder of Malawian Professor Gregory Kamwendo.
Professor Kamwendo was shot and killed by two men while in his vehicle on May 22, 2018.
The High Court convicted and sentenced Mkhuliseni Mthiyane, 53, and Selby Nkuna, 49 for their involvement in the brutal murder of the Malawian Professor.
According to Durban provincial Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala the two accused were positively identified and linked to the case as investigation by police revealed that Nkuna was a lecturer at the same University.
Before his assassination, Professor Kamwendo received multiple death threats for exposing the fraudulent issuing of PhDs by the University of Zululand.
Kamwendo, who was a Professor in Sociolinguistic and education once taught at University of Malawi`s Chancellor College from 1990 and he attained his professorship in 2004.
Until his death, the 53 year old Professor Kamwendo was Dean of the faculty of Arts at the University of Zululand.
