Members of Parliament have passed the much talked Taxation Amendment Bill.
According to Finance Minister, Felix Mlusu, among other requirements, the Bill seeks to increase tax free band of Pay As You Earn (PAYE) from K45, 000 to K100, 000 effective October 2020.
Mlusu added that the Bill will also see the amendment of 20% withholding tax to the betting and lottery industries.
The tax free threshold of casual labour has also been increased from K15, 000 to K35, 000.
But reacting to the development, the main opposition side, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) spokesperson on Finance in the house, Joseph Mwanamveka, said the amendment of withholding tax on lotteries and betting is punitive.
The Bill went through the committee stage without any amendment.
