A 40 year old Nsanje cyclist Mavuto Mussa whose footage went viral on social media ferrying nine kids to school last week has received a brand new tricycle from well-wishers.
Mussa found himself in trouble when police apprehended him questioning his tactics but he was eventually released amid a heated debate on his action.
His situation prompted some social media users led by Gerald Kampanikiza of GCK Media to raise funds and support Musa with a tricycle.
Speaking in Lilongwe during a handle over ceremony of the tricycle, Kampanikiza said they opted to raise funds for Musa after critically analysing Musa`s situation.
“I was shocked when I heard that the guy was arrested, and I was one of the people who made noise to make sure that he is released and he was released then I commenced fundraising campaign to reach out to him,” said Kampanikiza.
Meanwhile, Musa has expressed gratitude over the gesture rendered upon him saying that it will support his Kabaza business by having more customers when using the tricycle.
“I am truly delighted, I can’t imagine myself owning a tricycle and it will indeed assist me in my daily living and with this tricycle I will be able to have more customers,” said Musa.
Musa earlier pleaded for a motorbike but the well-wishers who asked for anonymity managed to purchase a tricycle for him.
According to Kampanikiza, other well-wishers have disclosed that they intend to buy a minibus for Mussa.
Mussa, who has a wife and two kids, ferries kids to St Joseph Nursery School around Sorgin in Nsanje District as he covers a distance of 8 kilometers carrying on his bicycle over five kids to and from school.
