Government has assured teachers in the country that they will start receiving their October salaries from November 3 2020.
The assurance follows a closed door meeting which Teachers Union Malawi (TUM) had with the Department of Human Resource on Monday in Lilongwe.
TUM General Secretary Charles Kumchenga has told us that all secondary and some primary school teachers are yet to receive their October salaries due to what government described as technical hitches.
“We have discussed with the government particularly with the Department of Human Resource and we also met Ministry of Education and they have agreed that salaries have delayed because of other technical problems.
“But those problems have been rectified and we are expecting teachers to start receiving their October salary starting from tomorrow onwards so that’s the stand as of now,” said Kumchenga.
Government has attributed the delay due to a hiccup with Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) but now the issue has been resolved.
