Head of the eye department at Zomba Central Hospital says lack of awareness is causing sight problems for many people in both rural and urban areas.
Suleni Munthali made the remarks on the sidelines of a free eye screening exercise which was organized by the , Zomba Lions club at Zomba Central hospital on November 7, 2020.
Speaking to YONECO FM online Munthali said the most common eye problem among people is cataract and this is treatable.
“My appeal to communities is that they should visit the hospital if they are experiencing any problem with their eyes, we receive at least 70 out patient’s every day and we assist them accordingly,” said Munthali.
In her remarks one of the people who came for eye screening Elestina Chambo from Namalaka said the free eye screening exercise has helped her to know the status of her eyes saying she struggles to read.
Meanwhile Zomba Lions Club vice president Dickson Vuwa Phiri described the exercise as successful and pointed out that they are expecting eye glasses from one of their partners and these will benefit a few people who cannot afford to buy the glasses.
