Police in Zomba are keeping in custody 31-year-old Muderanji Kanjila for defiling a 5 months old baby girl.

Zomba Police Spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano said the suspect committed the offence on November 21, 2020 during evening hours.

“It is said that a couple was with their baby when the suspect came and asked them to have the child so that he could chat with her at his home since they are neighbours.

“The suspect took her to his home where he defiled her. After an hour, he brought the baby back and she was crying.

“When the mother was changing the clothes of the victim, she noticed blood spots on her cloths and bruises on her private part,” Sipiliano said.

The matter was reported to the police and the suspect was immediately arrested.

The victim was given a medical report form for examination and treatment and results from Zomba Central Hospital proved that the baby had been defiled.

Kanjila comes from Mtiya village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba District.
