The Malawi Police Service (MPS) says it will tighten up security in a bid to control criminal activities and road accidents during this festive season.
Deputy national police spokesperson Peter Kalaya told Yoneco Fm that they have put in place strategies to make sure that Malawians are safe during the festive season.
“We are gradually increasing our rural and urban patrols both foot and vehicle patrols to make sure that we are visible everywhere. We are also engaged in awareness campaigns where we are telling people on the best practices to keep themselves safe and secure,” he said.
Kalaya however said security is a shared responsibility hence people should as well play their role in ensuring the their homes are safe.
He also cautioned people against drinking and driving saying it increases road accidents.
