The Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 says it intends to turn Bingu National Stadium (BNS) into Covid-19 isolation center amid rise in cases.
Confirming the move to YFM sports desk, co-chairperson for the taskforce Dr John Phuka said the ministry of health is currently assessing the facility.
“As you are aware that government is overwhelmed with the cases, we decided to use some of these facilities as isolation centers and BNS was one of the facilities,” Dr Phuka said.
He however pointed out that the patients will be using dressing rooms and not the actual pitch.
Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions and communications director – Gomezgani Zakazaka has tested positive for Covid-19 and is currently in isolation.
As of January 14, Covid-19 registered cases had exceeded 10,000 with death toll at 285.
