Former Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) President, Rose Chinunda, who died on January 17, 2021, was laid to rest on Monday at Area 18 cemetery in Lilongwe.
Chinunda, who was appointed as Board Member of Malawi National Council of Sports last year, died at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe after suffering from pneumonia.
The netball fraternity in the country has expressed shock over the demise of the legendary netball administrator.
Nam General Secretary, Carlo Bapu, described the death of Mrs Chinunda as a big loss.
Bapu said: “We are greatly shocked by the death of Mrs Chinunda whom in netball circles we regarded as a loving and caring mother and most of us have reached this far in the sport because of her, she was always inspiring.”
Before being admitted at Kamuzu Central Hospital where she died, late Chinunda was taken to Partners in Hope.
In 2017 she officially handed over her post of NAM President to Khungekile Matiya.
She was born on February 9, 1953 and is survived by four children.
