Zomba District Health Office says construction of the new covid-19 hospital at Zomba State House will commence soon.
Zomba DHO Spokesperson, Arnold M’ndalira, said this during a press briefing on covid-19 at the district council’s chamber.
In an interview with YFM, M’ndalira said they have so far conducted a site survey together with the district covid-19 task force and identified a contractor to do the work.
“We have started preparations for the whole process and last week we went for a site survey with the district covid-19 taskforce,” he said.
“We intend to erect the structure at the statehouse ground. We have managed to solicit resources and the necessary equipment and the actual construction will start soon.
The hospital will have a bed capacity of about 150.
President Lazarus Chakwera ordered that the Zomba State House be turned into a covid-19 hospital among other sites following the rapid increase in the cases.
To date the country has 9,129 active covid-19 cases.
