Journalists will have an opportunity to get tested for Covid-19 at their respective offices a move which has been facilitated by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi in liaison with the ministry of information.

The Institute has released a statement signed by its chairperson Teresa Ndanga, highlights that journalists will be tested for Covid-19 where there are confirmed cases within the media house or there are individuals who have clear symptoms.

Ever since Malawi registered its first case of SARS-CoV-2, the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi Chapter has been fighting for the protection of journalists against the virus.

The chapter among other things lobbied for media houses to consider work shifts for journalists and provision of Personal Protective equipment (PPE’s).

As essential service providers journalists are at high risk of contracting the virus as they meet different people in search for news.

In the statement MISA has commended government for its consideration to have Journalists tested for Covid-19 through their media houses saying this will go a long way in keeping journalists safe.

Additionally the statement has urged media houses not to hesitate contacting the institute if need arises.
