Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has asked the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) to account for K6.2 billion it received from government to support the fight against Covid-19.
In August last year, DoDMA was given K6.2 billion to among others, disinfect schools, conduct public awareness on media platforms, facilitate the return of Malawians from South Africa, support survivors of gender based violence and border patrols by the police, army and immigration.
But in a statement signed by HRDC chairperson Gift Trapence, the Coalition said little has been done citing the Northern Region borders of Songwe and Chitipa which were not patrolled yet money was given.
Trapence said DoDMA should release a report so that taxpayers are made aware of how their money was managed.
