The graft bursting body, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) says it will closely monitor the process of procuring face masks in the local councils.
Government released about K1 billion to local councils across the country for face masks to be distributed to the citizenry as one way of preventing covid-19.
ACB Deputy Director General, Elia Bodole through a statement said the move intends to prevent corruption during the process.
“ACB will undertake the precaution measure to ensure that funds are utilized for the intended purpose,” reads part of the statement.
Meanwhile, the National Anti-Corruption Alliance (NACA) has applauded ACB for the move.
Executive Director for NACA- Moses Mkandawire said the move will help to avoid a repeat of 6.2 billion Covid-19 funds which are yet to be accounted for.
