Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has disclosed that he has never met President Lazarus Chakwera ever since he was ushered into power last year.
Nankhumwa`s remarks come in accordance with a campaign promise by the Malawi Leader who said he will be meeting Leader of Opposition to discuss governance issues affecting the country.
But speaking to YFM, Nankhumwa said he has never had an interface with the President, almost 8 months down the line of the Tonse Alliance administration.
“Yes, it’s true, the President announced that he will be meeting the leader of opposition every three months, but this is almost 8 months with the President in office no attempt has been made that I meet him.
“So, this is the reason why I would want to bring to the attention of Malawians but anytime the Presidents says that time is now please come as I promise, then I will be glad to and present some of the issues,” disclosed Nankhumwa.
When asked if he has ever made attempts himself to meeting the President, Nankhumwa declined his responsibility over the development.
“I think it’s not my duty, he said it, and it depends on the Presidential diary, it’s not up to me to be forcing him that I want to meet you, and that is going to happen when the President is ready, but I think he is not ready now,” said the opposition leader.
For the time being, Presidential Press Secretary Brian Banda has asked for more time to comment on the matter.
