President Lazarus Chakwera has disclosed that he will announce results of the review and assessment of his Cabinet by the end of March this year.
The development follows earlier announcement by the Malawi Leader in July 2020 that the process of assessing the newly appointed Cabinet would involve members giving progress reports publicly in December last year.
“His Excellency the President, therefore, decided to do the review internally, which is already underway, in consultation with the State Vice President, Dr Saulos Chilima,” reads the statement signed by Presidential Press Secretary Brian Banda.
The Ministers were supposed to be interviewed publicly in January this year.
But the President announced a postponement of the evaluation process to the first quarter of 2021 to incorporate in the review process the public sector reforms performance contracts that the Cabinet Ministers signed last November.
Chakwera has singled out the second wave of Covid-19 that has disrupted government operations and unforeseen loss of two senior Cabinet members that necessitated doing the cabinet assessment more efficiently than initially considered.
Upon completion of the internal review process, the President`s reconstituted Cabinet will be announced by his office at the end of the first quarter.
Chakwera made the ministerial appointments on July 8, 2020.
