Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has attributed the delay in the investigations into allegations of sexual harassment of female employees at Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to Covid-19 pandemic.
MHRC embarked on a probe into the allegations that MBC’s then Director General, Aubrey Sumbuleta, sexually harassed some female journalists at the public corporation.
Writing on her Facebook page, MBC journalist, Catherine Kunje, narrated a sexual harassment encounter with Sumbuleta at the workplace.
According to MHRC Executive assistant, Habiba Osman, the probe that was embarked in October last year, is only remaining with a few witnesses to be heard.
“The delay finalizing hearing from these witnesses has been as a result of covid-19,” reads part of the statement.
The Commission said it committed to finalising the process.
