A child rights activist has called on teachers and the government to think about children’s right to education amid the ongoing teacher’s strike.
The activist Fred Nyondo, made the remarks following a standoff between teachers and government which has come about as teachers are on strike lobbying for covid-19 allowances.
Nyondo has told YFM that although the teachers’ concerns are legitimate it is also important to ensure that students’ rights are upheld.
“Teachers and government should understand that the rights of children here are at stake and they should understand that this lies in their hand to ensure that their right to education is being upheld,” said Nyondo.
There has been a misunderstanding between teachers and government over COVID-19 allowances from the time when the ministry of education announced that students can return to school almost a week ago.
