The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says receipt of Nomination papers for the 30 March by election shall take place on 8 March 2021.
The Director of Media and Public Relations at MEC Sangwani Mwafulirwa disclosed this in an interview with YONECO FM online saying all candidates should ensure they are alert as they are signing the nomination papers to avoid errors that can hinder them from contesting in the election.
“The commission is encouraging all candidates to pay extra attention to details ,for instance those who are vulging for the candidacy of a person should be people who registered at a school that is within the constituency or the ward in which the candidate is contesting.
“Nomination is a process and a lot is required that is why we made the papers available when launching the by elections in the constituencies,” he said.
Mwafulirwa also mentioned there will be no nomination of new candidates in constituencies that have fallen vacant because of nullication of results by the court.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic candidates will be allowed to come with only 10 members.
No other supporters will be allowed to escort the candidate or be present within 100-meter radius of the nomination venue.
