Construction of the K139 million Mpondabwino dual lane bridge in Zomba is yet to commence, a month after official handover of the contract.
YFM has established that the contractor, Shimmering Towers Construction has no start-up capital to run the project.
The company won the contract despite contract conditions indicating that a contractor should have startup capital before being given a contract.
Zomba City Council Publicist, Mercy Chaluma confirmed of the development in an interview with YFM.
Chaluma said the council has asked the Roads Fund Administration to give the contractor his part payment for the work to commence.
The construction of a 25-mitre long and 10-mitre wide Mpondabwino Bridge, was supposed to be completed in 120 days effective February 15, 2021.
