The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has forecasted that most areas in the southern part of the country will this week experience a reduced and erratic rainfall coverage.
According to Director of the Department Jolamu Nkhokwe, the rainfall pattern will however be associated with occasional heavy thunderstorm.
Nkhokwe added that areas in the Center and North are expected to experience slightly reduced rainfall activities but with a wide coverage.
“The heavy rainfall episodes are likely to pose a high threat of flush floods in low lying areas particularly along the lakeshore.
“The public is therefore advised not to walk through fast moving water or crossing flooding rivers,” said Nkhokwe.
The Department has also directed road users to also exercise caution when driving on the country`s roads due to reduced visibility and to avoid skidding on muddy roads.
Nkhokwe has also appealed to the general public to exercise extra caution when such downpour is happening.
“Due to high chance of thunderstorms, people in the country are advised to be indoors, not touch electrical equipment, avoid plumbing, not bath or was dishes.
Stay away from windows and doors, not swim or fish, stay at a low spot away from trees, and not sit on verandahs whenever there is thunderstorm in the vicinity,” said Nkhokwe.
