Second phase of COVID-19 vaccination exercise was rolled out in Blantyre on Monday with long queues of recipients.
A visit by YFM at Gate Way Clinic found a long line of people waiting to be vaccinated.
Speaking to YFM Director of Health and Social Services in Blantyre district, Dr Gift Kawalazira said out of 33,000 doses that were received in the district only 2,000 doses have been administered during the first phase and currently 31 thousand doses are remaining to be administered.
Dr. Kawalazira has therefore encouraged all the eligible people to visit the designated centered to get their jab saying the district has adequate doses to administer.
The people being targeted in the current phase include the elderly of 60 years and above and those with chronicle conditions.
On the issue which took center stage of administering the vaccine at Malmed Private Clinic, Dr. Kawalazira clarified that there was a misconnection between the DHO officers and the purported clinic.
He said the clinic asked the DHO officers to administer the vaccine and the clinic rushed to publish the matter while the health officers were taking the issue to their management which turned down the request.
Health facilities where the vaccine is being administered are Gate way clinic, Limbe, Lilangwe, Chileka, Chilomoni, Zingwangwa, Mpemba, Ndirande, Kadidi, Bangwe and Mlambe.
