As one way of ensuring that people are protected from Covid-19 the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says it will provide free face masks to all persons who will go to vote, work or observe the 30 March by elections.
Speaking to YONECO FM online, Director of Media and Public Relations at MEC, Sangwani Mwafulirwa said the commission has received 320,000 facemasks from the Covid-19 taskforce.
“We are grateful for this gesture by the Covid-19 taskforce through the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) the masks are enough to carter for everyone on the polling day,” he said.
Mwafulirwa, however, encouraged people who already have facemasks to take precaution and wear the masks when going to vote.
At least 290,495 registered voters are expected to cast ballot on March 30, 2021.
